  • Promote MHSR Core using pilot studies

  • Keep DRTC members informed of ongoing Core services through a biannual electronic newsletter

  • Develop and implement periodic workshops and seminars on relevant topics

  • Provide advice and training to graduate students, fellows, and investigators on the specific measurements and technologies that pertain to their research

  • Provide training benefiting DRTC faculty investigators

  • Establish dialogue with and within the community to empower individuals

  • Continually meet with MHRC community partners who are already involved in health promotion activities

  • Place health questionnaires at UAB outpatient clinics in Birmingham and at Black Belt satellite clinics, Cooper Green County Hospital clinics, clinics that treat large numbers of Hispanic patients, and at the offices of physicians who are members of the African American Mineral District Medical Society

  • Assist DRTC investigators in developing recruitment and retention strategies through the implementation of existing models

  • Assist DRTC investigators to pilot-test data-collection instruments and surveys, and to assure cultural competency of these tools

  • Assist DRTC investigators in identifying and recruiting focus-group participants and conducting focus-groups and surveys with the targeted population

  • Facilitate measurements and methodologies for DRTC investigators related to the characterization of target ethnic groups and community environments

  • Help CHAs establish optimal modes of communication, including material development and maintenance, media contacts, internet, and electronic resources

  • Assist DRTC investigators in establishing dissemination plans critical for the success of grant applications

  • Develop print literature that is culturally appropriate for the high-risk populations, with key messages derived from ongoing DRTC research

  • Publish newsletters in collaboration with DRTC investigators and community members

  • Adapt the Health Disparities Fellowship Program for DRTC members and trainees
